A perfect five, one toastie at a time

Not a rating we made up: a straight 5.0 across 118 Google reviews, from locals and lost tourists alike. A few of them, in their own words.

“The Tunisian sandwich is absolutely delicious! Better than the expensive breakfast I had at a restaurant before walking over. Love this! Must try!”

“The two toasties I tried were phenomenal and great value for money. Clissold Park around the corner to eat it on a bench. Highly recommend the New York Deli.”

“A real experience from start to finish. The warmest of welcomes, the tastiest toasties, delicious coffee. Top bloke and a top place. We will return!”

The stall

A weekend ritual on Broadway Market

Dalston Melts is a proper Broadway Market fixture: a griddle, a stack of sourdough and a queue of people who know exactly what they came for. Artisan toasted sandwiches, organic ingredients, all home-made and hand-made.

The bread comes from The Dusty Knuckle, the Hackney bakery around the corner. The slaw and gherkins are made in-house, the coffee’s good, and the welcome, by all accounts, comes with a bit of banter. Set up between London Fields and the Regent’s Canal, it’s the kind of stall you plan your Saturday around.

Good to know

Before you head down

Where and when can I find you?

We’re on Broadway Market in London Fields, Hackney E8 4QJ, every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 6pm. Look for the yellow stall between the park and the Regent’s Canal. Directions and a map are just above, and the banner at the top of the page shows if we’re trading right now.

What’s actually in the melts?

Three signatures: the Broadway Classic (mozzarella, gouda and cheddar), the New York Deli (artisan pastrami, three cheeses, gherkins and mustard) and The Tunisian (organic harissa chicken with three cheeses). All on Dusty Knuckle sourdough, griddle-pressed, and served with homemade slaw and gherkins. Full menu is here.

Is there a vegetarian option?

Yes. The Broadway Classic is a straight-up three-cheese melt, and you can add homemade walnut pesto. We often run veggie specials too, so it’s worth checking the board on the day or our Instagram.

Where’s the bread from?

The Dusty Knuckle, the Hackney bakery just up the road. Their sourdough is what makes the melt hold together and crisp up properly on the griddle. Organic, hand-made ingredients throughout.
